Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Vanderhoof Flying Club & Flight School

Do I need any experience to start flight training?

No experience needed. Many students start with no aviation background. We’ll guide you step-by-step from the basics.

What is a Discovery Flight?

A Discovery Flight is a relaxed introduction to flying with a qualified instructor. You’ll experience the aircraft, learn what training looks like, and ask questions—no pressure to continue afterward.

Do I need a medical before I start?

Not always, but we recommend starting the medical process early to avoid delays later. Your instructor can guide you based on your training goals.

How long does it take to earn a licence?

It varies by student. Progress depends on how often you fly, weather, and study habits. Training is proficiency-based, not time-based.

What if the weather is bad?

Weather cancellations are normal—especially in Northern BC. If conditions aren’t suitable, we delay or reschedule. When possible, we’ll use the time for ground briefing.

How do I book lessons?

Lessons are booked directly with your instructor using our established scheduling process. Booking ahead is encouraged.

How much does flight training cost?

Costs vary based on lesson frequency, training pace, and other factors. We can provide general guidance, but total cost and timeline can’t be guaranteed.

What should I wear or bring?

Wear comfortable clothes for the weather and closed-toe shoes. Bring photo ID, a notebook, and any assigned study materials. Sunglasses are helpful on bright days.
